Top Rock Steps & Drills 2/2

On the second part of the bboydojo.com Top Rock Steps & Drills we’ll take a deeper look at:

  • The most important lesson I ever learned from Mr. Wiggles and how to put it in action.
  • How to react and ride the record instead of just dancing on counts.
  • How foundational steps don’t always fit the music and how to overcome this.

Take what you learn and apply it to your freestyle!

Really helpful! Really like the examples of what to do with that extra time, concepts on “catching up”, lots to play with 🙂

Can you give any other examples of records which have a very distinctive synocapted/delayed snare for more practise?

Heeey! Sure. This is a very typical pattern in the James Brown sound of funk. The track here is a little simplified to a loop but similar patterns can be found all over funk. Here are a couple of examples:
      James Brown: Cold Sweat
James Brown: Since You Been Gone
James Brown: Soul Pride (the break part)
Nina Simone: Funkier Than a Mosquito’s Tweeter (the break part)

After listening to these go on a quest to find more 😉 -F

So inspiring. The feeling that all the basic steps are reinvented after some time while they were lost in practice and teaching. I would love to join the question of Dave about the music examples.

I post this here too so you don’t miss it 😀
